Kampung Baru’s ‘bubur lambuk agong’ declared tourism icon
KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 —Kampung Baru’s “bubur lambuk agong” porridge was declared a tourism icon today in conjunction with the month of Ramadan.
Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said the “bubur lambuk agong” is a famous signature dish which is recognised not just by the residents of Kampung Baru but those within the Klang Valley as well.
“People from around Klang Valley stop at the Kampung Baru Masjid Jamek to get the dish, apart from praying here,” she said while launching the 2012 Ramadan bazaar at the mosque here today. One hundred pots of the porridge were distributed to visitors to the mosque on the first day of the bazaar today.
Ng described the bazaar as a platform for Malaysians to promote local delicacies from multi-racial communities to foreign tourists.
“We can also introduce our rich culture, heritage, the Malaysian lifestyle and share the Ramadan experience with them,” she added. — Bernama
