Kedah MB back at work after hospital stay

ALOR SETAR, Sept 5 — Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak returned to work today and chaired the weekly state executive council meeting after more than a week’s rest in hospital.

He said a hectic schedule as well as bouts of food poisoning during the fasting month had affected his health and he was advised by his doctor to rest.

“From the second day to the 29th day of Ramadan, I went to all the districts except Kubang Pasu and Kulim/Bandar Baharu to break fast with the people,” he told reporters after the meeting.

Azizan (picture) said he was admitted to a private hospital on August 29 and was discharged yesterday.

On a suggestion by Kedah Gerakan Youth for a deputy mentri besar’s post, he said there was no need for that as he was still capable of discharging his duties.

Azizan, who is the state assemblyman for Sungai Limau, said that should he be on medical leave, his duties could be carried out by other state executive councillors.

Asked whether he would withdraw from contesting in the next general election because of his health, Azizan said the decision rested with the PAS central committee.

“If I am still fit and proper to lead the state government, I will lead,” he said. — Bernama
