KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 ― Kedah MCA Chairman Datuk Chong Itt Chew denied today that he supports the introduction of hudud law and demanded an apology from the Sinar Harian newspaper for quoting him as saying so.

Yesterday, Sinar Harian published a front-page report quoting Chong as telling political foe DAP to drop its opposition to hudud law as the Islamic penal code would not affect non-Muslims.

When contacted today, Chong stressed that he was “very sure” that the hudud issue was never raised in a phone interview with the Malay daily.

“I didn’t touch a single word on hudud. (The) reporter also didn’t ask me about hudud. (Yet) when it (was) published in Sinar yesterday, he said MCA Kedah supports hudud.”

“I will officially write in to Sinar. I want Sinar to apologise to me on what they published. The statement is not true.”

Chong said he has not decided on whether he will sue the newspaper.
