Kedah Umno Youth eyes eight seats in next GE
JITRA, Aug 2 — Kedah Umno Youth has expressed the hope that the party leadership would allow its representatives to contest eight seats in the next general election.
Its leader, Badrol Hisham Hashim, said Kedah Umno Youth had proposed the names of eight potential candidates to the party headquarters for a decision by the leadership.
“These are persons of credibility who are highly committed to the party and often go down to the ground to be with the people. They have the characteristics of winnable candidates,” he told reporters after a meeting of Kedah Umno Youth here yesterday.
He said that in the last general election in 2008, Kedah Umno Youth was given six seats to contest and won four, namely the Jerlun parliamentary and the Bayu, Belantik and Ayer Hangat state seats.
The request for the two additional seats was made based on a recent study which showed a change in the mood of voters, who now favoured Umno and the Barisan Nasional (BN), he said.
BN lost Kedah to the opposition in the last general election after winning only 15 of the 36 state seats. The BN also won only four of the 15 parliamentary seats in the state in 2008. — Bernama
