Khairy says Selangor government hypocritical over IPP, toll issues

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 — Rembau member of parliament (MP) Khairy Jamaluddin labelled the Selangor government as hypocritical for raising the independent power producers (IPP) and toll issues while at the same time having an interest in companies involved in both activities.

Khairy (picture), who also is Barisan Nasional Youth chairman, said the Pakatan Rakyat Selangor government, which has often criticised the federal government over the IPP and toll issues has an interest in first generation IPP,  Genting Sanyen (M) Sdn Bhd and the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas).

“They criticise, oppose, but at the same time, receive benefits in the form of dividends from the IPP investment. It shows their hypocrisy and unapologetic nature.

“The investment may have been made before they took over Selangor but it has been four years and no efforts were done to divest the shares or investment in Genting Sanyen,” he told reporters in parliament lobby here today.

The Umno Youth chief said that if they did not agree in principle with the investment, it was only proper for the Selangor government to dispose of the shares.

Also present during the press conference were MP for Kota Belud Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan and MP for Simpang Renggam Liang Teck Meng.

Khairy said Worlwide Holdings Berhad, a wholly owned subsidiary of Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), has 25 per cent stake in Genting Sanyen.

It is also hypocritical of Pakatan Rakyat to promise to abolish the highway toll while the Selangor government has 20 per cent stake in Kesas Expressway. — Bernama
