Klang Valley air quality improves

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 — Air quality in the Klang Valley continues to improve as no areas recorded an unhealthy air level on the Air Pollution Index (API) today.

The Department of Environment (DoE) in a statement here said air quality recorded in the last 24 hours showed 11 areas were good, 40 areas moderate and only one area in Seberang Jaya, Penang at an unhealthy level (API 103).   

According to the statement, a deterioration of air quality with an increasing API trend was recorded in the west coast of the northern peninsula at 11am today from cross-border haze pollution originating from Sumatra, Indonesia.

The statement also said the ban on open burning in the state of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya remained in force.

Members of the public can report cases of open burning to the Fire and Rescue Department at 999 or DoE at toll free line 1-800-88-2727. — Bernama
