LUMUT, Sept 4 – Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha today asked the police to ensure that all “saman ekor” (postal traffic summonses) issued under the ongoing Ops Sikap 22 exercise reaches the recipients fast.
He said the police should come up with a fast way of sending the summonses.
“Some people have complained that they have received summonses two to five years after the alleged offence.
“This inefficiency causes much difficulty for the motorists. The long duration makes it difficult for the motorists to remember whether they had committed the offence or not,” he said after presenting Aidilfitri goodies in Kampung Melayu Baru, Felcra Simpang Dua, Sitiawan, near here.
Kong said he did not dispute the issuing of the summonses but felt that their delivery should be improved, and suggested that they be delivered in one to two weeks.
The police had held back the blacklisting of traffic offenders until February 28 next year to enable them to renew their driving licence and road tax.
The Ops Sikap 22 exercise, which is on from yesterday to September 17, is aimed at reducing the number of road accidents during the Aidilfitri festive season. – Bernama
