Locals unmoved over Lahad Datu siege

LAHAD DATU, Feb 15 — The capture of a group of armed foreigners impersonating military personnel in Kampung Tanduo last Tuesday has not affected the life of villagers in the nearby Kampung Tambisan.

Kampung Tambisan village chief Abdul Majid Jamdi, 74, said the villagers, comprising mostly fishermen, seemed unaffected by the incident as they continued to pursue their daily tasks.

“We are confident that the security forces are able to ensure security and keep it everything under close control,” he told Bernama when met at the village yesterday.

Kampung Tambisan imam Abdullah Muhammad, 64, on the other hand, said he did not even knew or heard about the incident.

Nevertheless, he said he believed that the authorities would be able to ensure safety of the villagers.

Kampung Tambisan is located in Tungku district near Felda Sahabat, which is about three hours away from here by car.

It has a population of 1,500 people of Sulok and Bajau tribes. — Bernama
