LRT, Monorail ticket machines to accept new coins in March

February 22, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 — Ticket vending machines at LRT and KL Monorail stations will start accepting the new Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) coins from next month, Bernama Online reported today.

The news portal quoted Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad Group Director for Rail Division Khairani Mohamed as saying in a statement released today that the company received the new coins for recalibration in December and its employees are currently upgrading the system.

Both the LRT and Monorail networks use the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) integrated ticketing system where tickets are dispatched via ticketing machines in the form of tokens for single journey travel or for topping up their stored value MyRapid Card.

In the meantime, commuters may exchange the new coins at Prasarana’s counters for old ones, he added.

As for the new banknotes, which will be issued by Bank Negara in June, Khairani said ticketing machines should be able to accept the new banknotes by July once they have been recalibrated.
