The Star reported today the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has begun a probe after it interviewed a 55-year-old businessman on the allegations.
“We have already started our investigations but they are based on what the media has reported. We are now identifying the Chinese associations which have made complaints to MCA and Gerakan.
“We need the associations to come forward. This will allow us to gather sufficient evidence to open a case,” the newspaper quoted Kedah MACC director Mohamad Yusoff Akope as saying.
State Environment, Chinese Affairs and Transport Committee chairman Tan Chow Kang @ Tan Joo Long was reported to have suspended his aide on Monday for allegedly asking for “rebate money” from allocations given to Chinese associations in Kedah.
Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak has said he would investigate the allegations if there was proof.
Each assemblyman is allocated RM100,000 per year and a state executive councillor is given RM150,000 for local development projects.
