Man attacks press photographers outside court

July 25, 2012

BUKIT MERTAJAM, July 25 — Two photographers from Guan Ming Daily and the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) were attacked by an unknown man while on assignment at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court here today.

In the 9.15am incident, the man, clad in jeans and a T-shirt, confronted Guan Ming’s Lim Lean Hin and tried to seize NSTP’s Mohamad Danial Saad’s camera.

Lim said the unidentified man, believed to be in his 40s, let both of them go after they deleted pictures of him from their cameras.

“We were taking pictures of a suspect believed to be involved in a Custom’s probe on cigarette smuggling but coincidently, the man was walking with the suspect while coming down the staircase,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after lodging a police report together with Mohamad Danial on the incident at Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) District Police here.

Both photographers expressed disappointment that security officers at the court just watched the incident unfold in front of them without taking any action.

The SPT police chief confirmed the case and said that investigations are underway. — Bernama
