Man jailed seven years for raping teen

PETALING JAYA, Aug 13 — The Sessions Court here today sentenced a technician to seven years in prison after he was found guilty of the rape of a Form Two student, three years ago.

Judge Balqis Aini Mohd Ali ordered Sharil Affendi Anbiah, 25, to serve the sentence from today.

Mohd Sharil committed the offence in a house in Puchong here, on March 24 2009.

His lawyer, Esther Tan, applied for a stay of execution pending a High Court appeal but deputy public prosecutor Dhya Syazwani Izyan Mohd Akhir requested for an increase in bail as Mohd Sharil had a record for being absent in court.

Balqis Aini allowed Esther’s application and raised bail from RM7,000 to RM8,000.

Seven prosecution witnesses and one defence witness was called to testify throughout the trial. — Bernama
