June 18, 2012

PASIR GUDANG, June 17 — The Higher Education Ministry has left it to Universiti Malaya (UM) to take action against its student who allegedly insulted Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said he was given to understand that the student, Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, was suspended for being involved in a demonstration against the National Higher Education Fund Corporation on April 14.

“As a student, he should be sensitive and be aware of the situation in the country. It is up to the university (to take action),” he told reporters after the presentation of the 5A land title application forms to 75 residents of Kampung Pasir Gudang Baru, by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman here today.

Haziq was believed to have questioned the Sultan of Johor’s expression of anger towards former Perak mentri besar and Bukit Gantang member of parliament, Datuk Seri Mohamad Nizar Jamaludin, who had criticised the Sultan’s bid for the WWW 1 number plate.

A first year law student, Haziq will be suspended for one semester, from September. — Bernama
