More housewives infected with AIDS due to ignorance
KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 5 — More women have been infected with AIDS/HIV due to lack of exposure and knowledge on the disease, Terengganu Cakna Community (KCT) president, Dr Mustapa Che Omar said.
He said the situation was becoming mores serious with more housewives contracting the disease due to their husband’s extramarital activities.
He expressed KCT’s concern with the development because of its implication on the family institution.
“We sympathise with these women and conduct briefing sessions to enlighten them on the disease, but some of them belittled our efforts,” he told Bernama here today.
Dr Mustapa said that with the assistance of the State Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council and the Health Department, KCT was able to build a shelter in Wakaf Tengah here for women and children with HIV. — Bernama
