MRT Corp says may open more jobs for tender soon

July 04, 2012

PETALING JAYA, July 4 — Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) is considering inviting tenders for the 31 packages of the Sungai Buloh-Kajang mass rapid transit (MRT) line in the current quarter.

Strategic communications and public relations director Amir Mahmood Razak said 85 contracts have been made available, 33 worth RM15.5 billion have been awarded, 21 are being evaluated and 31 have yet to be called.

“We are planning to award four packages in the current quarter, with the biggest tender being the RM1.6 billion rolling stock deal, which will be announced soon.

“All the packages will be awarded by year-end,” he told a media briefing.

It was reported that three companies have tendered to supply the rolling stock, namely Changchun Railways Vehicle Co Ltd, Siemens SMH Rail Consortium and CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co Ltd.

Besides the rolling stock project, Amir said MRT Corp was also considering awarding the Taman Mesra-Kajang viaduct package and the Kajang depot package in the current quarter.

The Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line, the first of the mega MRT infrastructure project, is estimated to cost RM30 billion.

Work on the 51km line, which will pass through 31 stations and serve 1.2 million people along the route, was on track.

He said MRT Corp was confident that all the tenders can be awarded by year-end and the massive project can be completed within the given timeframe.

Asked whether it was possible to award the remaining 48 packages within the last three months of this year, Amir said that it was possible as most of the remaining projects were small in terms of size and value. — Bernama
