Murder suspect dies while undergoing medical treatment

GEORGE TOWN, March 13 – A 60-year-old murder suspect who was warded at the Penang Hospital yesterday, following detention by the police to facilitate investigations, died today.

The man succumbed to a heart problem at the hospital’s emergency ward.

Yesterday, the suspect was nabbed by a police team in connection with the killing of a man at Block B, Taman Sri Idaman Flats.

Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the suspect had earlier, tried to hide at an area in Padang Tembak before he was detected by the police about 5pm.

“Upon arrest, he appeared tired and was sent to the hospital where he died this morning.

“The man could have over-exerted himself when he fled from the police to find a hiding place,” he told reporters here today.

About 8.30am yesterday, a man armed with a knife stabbed Liew Kum Thong, 33, to death at a dumpsite near the flats.
