Najib spends Chinese year-end celebration at old folks home

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak joined the Winter Solstice celebration today at an old folks home in Kampung Baru Jalan Sungai Way.

Appearing in his light blue shirt and purple tie, Najib spent half an hour with residents, tasting the Chinese dessert  Tang Yuan or Kueh Eeh, Bernama Online reported.

The Chinese observe the annual event on December 22, reminding the community the passing of a year.

The prime minister donated RM100,000 to the home housing 62 persons.

The prime minister's political secretary Wong Nai Chee (picture) said the visit underscored Najib’s interest in Chinese culture.

The home was officiated on February 26, 1966 by then deputy prime minister Tun Abdul Razak, Najib’s father.
