Narcotics sergeant fined RM5,000 for bribery

KUALA TERENGGANU, July 15 — A policewoman from the Besut Police Headquarters, Narcotics Division, was fined RM5,000 or 10 months’ jail in default by the Sessions Court here for receiving a RM500 bribe from a suspected drug addict in September last year.  

Judge Datuk Zainal Abidin Kamarudin handed the sentenced down on Sgt Esah Ismail, 52, from Kelantan, after she pleaded guilty to the charge.  

According to the facts of the case, Esah who was the investigating officer in Zambri Sharifuddin’s case, solicited RM1,000 from him to ‘adjust’ his drug test when it came back positive.    

Following a complaint on the matter, the mother of seven was entrapped with RM500 in marked notes by the Terengganu Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).  

She was arrested on September 11, 2011 and charged under the Penal Code.
