August 13, 2012

SHAH ALAM, Aug 13 — A Nigerian woman was sentenced to 15 years’ jail by the High Court here today after she pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of possession of 2.881kg of methamphetamine at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang two years ago.

Judge Datuk Akhtar Tahir ordered Queen Amaechi Iwuala, 39, to serve the sentence from the date of her arrest on October 22, 2010.

Initially, Queen pleaded not guilty to a charge under section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence.

She changed her plea to guilty however after being offered the alternative charge under section 12 (2) of the same Act. — Bernama
