Nik Aziz: No surprise if Nasharudin quits PAS
KOTA BHARU, Aug 15 — Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat said he would not be surprised if former PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa quits the party after he was seen with Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak in Mecca yesterday.
“What’s so strange about it if (Datuk Mohd) Asri (Muda), who for decades was PAS president, joined Umno? So, Nasharudin (picture) could also do the same,” the PAS spiritual leader told Bernama, here, today.
Newspapers today carried pictures of Nasharudin together with the prime minister meeting Saudi Arabia’s renowned ulama in conjunction with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Extraordinary Summit in Mecca.
Nasharudin had before this, ruffled feathers in PAS for supporting the idea of forming an Umno-PAS unity government, which also angered Nik Aziz.
At the PAS general assembly last year, Nasharuddin failed to retain his deputy president post which he lost to Mohamad Sabu.
Nik Aziz also said that it would be better for Nasharudin to leave PAS than create problems for the party. — Bernama
