Now, the haze is choking Port Klang at 487

The air pollutant index (API) there was recorded at 487 as at 7am according to the DOE website. It had already reached hazardous levels yesterday evening, at 319. 

The area is bearing the brunt of the haze now as the smoke drifts north from Johor’s Muar and Ledang, where a state of emergency was declared on Sunday. The port town in Selangor has been recording API's over 280 for the past two days.

Others parts of Selangor were also waking up to mask day this morning. Those closing in on the hazardous mark of 300 were Banting at 292, up from 207 yesterday evening and Shah Alam (289).

Kuala Selangor recorded a 242 reading.

The fifth location hit hard by the haze this morning is Seri Manjung in Perak, nearly 200km away from Port Klang.

Across Malaysia, 19 areas are still labeled unhealthy with an API status between 101 and 200. - June 25, 2013.
