NUBE lauds DPM’s advice on worker-employer cooperation
KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 — The National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) today welcomed the advice of Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for workers and employers to enhance their relationship for the good of the country’s future.
NUBE general secretary, J. Solomon in a statement described the advice as “very wise and timely” because the nation was moving fast towards achieving its target of becoming a developed nation by 2020.
He was commenting on Muhyiddin’s (picture) advice to workers and employers at a gathering in Johor on Tuesday.
However, Solomon regretted that some employers in the banking industry did not believe in this basic principle which caused much unease and frustration among the workers, particularly the low-income earners.
He said there was one bank which had 68 cases pending against it in the Industrial Court and 123 unresolved grievances in the last two years. A total of 537 police reports have also been lodged against the same bank by its employees.
He hoped the banking industry would heed the advice of the deputy prime minister and make amends with the union for the common good of the country. — Bernama
