Pairin defends 1 Malaysia concept

September 04, 2010

TAMBUNAN, Sept 4 – The statement by certain personalities that they did not understand the 1 Malaysia concept introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak cannot be accepted, said Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.

The 1 Malaysia concept clearly led the people towards a destination desired by all Malaysians.

“According to the clarification by the Prime Minister, the definition of the 1 Malaysia concept is that we stand, we think and act as a Malaysian race. We take action based on the wishes of all ethnic groups in the country and move out of the way we act within the ethnic wall that we have been practising for so long,” he said.

He said this when opening the annual general meeting of the Tambunan PBS division held at the Dewan Tandarason Resort and Country Club Tambunan, near here today.

Pairin, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, said this meant that the 1Malaysia concept demanded that every citizen and leader played their respective role, thought and acted as a Malaysian race.

He said the concept was introduced to churn out a Malaysian race that was more resilient in facing the various challenges posed by current globalisation.

Pairin said the challenge posed by globalisation throughout the world currently demanded that every country planned their strategies so that they would not be cut off from the mainstream of globalisation. – Bernama
