PAS Syura Council gives Nasha the boot
Sinar quoted the council's secretary Datuk Nik Zawawi Nik Salleh saying that Nasharudin was found to have broken several of the body' regulations.
The decision was said to have been made last January 13 at a meeting chaired by PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.
Among Nasha's infractions included non-attendance of council meetings, but Nik Zawawi declined to elaborate further.
Nik Zawawi also said that a letter confirming Nasharudin's dismissal was sent out after the meeting was held. Nasha did not contact the council for any further clarification, he added.
"With this decision, the PAS Syura Council members hope that he (Nasharudin) will 'istiqamah' (find the right path) and focus on the party's struggle. His contributions are still needed and it is hoped he will be able to benefit the party," quoted Sinar.
On Nasharudin recently joining Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's entourage on the latter's trip to Gaza, Nik Zawawi said that was Nasharuddin's personal choice.
Previously Nasharudin's fate was supposed to have been decided at a September 9 meeting, but no mention of his actions were made at the gathering.
Nasharudin, the Member of Parliament for Bachok, had earlier urged the party to review its cooperation with Pakatan Rakyat drawing the criticism of other PAS members.
* A previous version of this article erroneously listed Nasharudin as a former PAS vice president, when he was in fact previously deputy president. The error is regretted.
