PAS told not to show ex-cop in uniform

July 11, 2012

KOTA BARU, July 11 — Political parties have been warned against using pictures of police personnel in uniform on buntings to promote their rallies.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said this was to safeguard the police’s image and avoid the force from being seen to favour any political parties, he added.

He was commenting on buntings with the picture of former Tapah district police chief DSP (R) Abdullah Omar in uniform being displayed to promote a rally organised by the Rantau Panjang PAS division in Kampung Pohon Buluh, Meranti, Pasir Mas last night.

“Even though the former police officer was one of the speakers at the ceramah, his picture in police uniform along with that of PAS elected representatives, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah and Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff should not have been used,” said Jalaluddin in a text message to Bernama.

He said action would be taken under Section 30 (1)(a) of the Police Act 1967. — Bernama
