PDC has no plans to build affordable housing for the people: Teng

BUTTERWORTH, Feb 2 – Penang Development Corporation (PDC) has no plans to build affordable housing for people in the state.

Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Teng Chang Yeow said this was proven when PDC set the price of affordable homes in the state at RM400,000 per unit.

“Where is the principle of Competency, Accountability and Transparency (CAT) campaigned over the years.

“There is no CAT, just Copy And Tell (CAT),” he told reporters after presenting RM50,000 to the management of Arulmiga Karunamariamman Temple here today.

Teng was commenting on a statement by PDC general manager Datuk Rosli Jaafar that each housing unit built by PDC is priced at RM400,000.

Houses under the 1Malaysia People’s Housing Project (PR1MA) are priced at between RM72,500-RM400,000 in urban areas and RM72,500-RM220,000 in rural areas.

“Thank you PDC. You have proven yourself that you are simply not capable at all,” said Teng.

Under PR1MA, the federal government plans to build flats with an area of 800 square feet to be sold at RM300,000 or below.

However, he said that a discussion with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak led to expansion of the area to 1,000 square feet to suit the price. – Bernama
