The robber, who took less than two minutes to rob the bank, took off with RM11,000 in the incident.

In the video clip, taken by a worker in the hypermarket who had hid in an elevator opposite the bank, the robber dressed in black overalls with a white mask could be seen holding two machetes.

It also showed one of the bank customers making a run for it and escaped as the robber turned to a security guard.

It is learnt that the robber entered the bank at about 1pm and held a machete against the security guard. Then he grabbed cash from the counter.

At the time of the incident, there were three bank tellers and four customers but nobody was hurt.

According to Penang CID Chief Senior Asst Comm Mazlan Kesah, this is the second time the same bank was robbed this year.

The bank was robbed of RM20,000 on January 12 this year.

“The same modus operandi was used for both robberies,” SAC Mazlan said.

The police are now vetting through the closed-circuit camera television (CCTV) footage to track down the suspect.

“The case is being investigated under Section 393 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery,” he said.

The machetes used by the robber were also recovered near the place of the incident, he added.
