GEORGE TOWN, April 14 — Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident of regaining the Batu Uban state seat in the coming 13th general election.
The coordinator for the Batu Uban state constituency, Goh Kheng Sneah said the confidence was based on the encouraging response given by the people for the various 'sentuhan rakyat' programmes organised by the BN in the area.
"Despite the loss in 2008, we remain consistent in going down to meet the people and our service centre here is active with all activities held there," he told reporters when attending the 100th birthday anniversary of the oldest resident here, Bedah Daud at Kampung Batu Uban today.
Goh said he knew most of the residents in the village there and did not see any new development brought by the incumbent Assemblyman for Batu Uban, S.Raveentharan in the past five years.
"According to the residents here, their service centre is also difficult to find. We had built a jetty worth RM1 million for the fishermen here in the past. Now, it is difficult even to see the face of the Assemblyman," he said.
In the 12th general election, Goh lost to the Parti Keadilan Rakyat by 611 votes.
Meanwhile, Bedah or better known as 'Tok Bedah' said she was excited that she had the opportunity to vote for the 13th time since she first discharged her responsibility as a voter in 1959.
Born on April 12, 1913, she had been active in Wanita Umno during her younger days and was proud that her children and grandchildren followed her footsteps in giving their loyalty to the party. — Reuters
