Penang church grateful for RM200,000 government aid

August 10, 2012

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 10 — The St John Britto Catholic church here has expressed gratitude to the federal government for allocating RM200,000 for its renovation.

The cheque for the amount, from the Prime Minister’s Department, was presented by Information Communication and Culture Deputy Minister Datuk Maglin Dennis D’Cruz today.

Speaking to reporters after the cheque presentation, he noted churches had to find their own means to obtain funds.

“However, the government has now come forward to help them. The government is now in the spirit of helping all religions in the country,” he said.

Fr Dominic Santhiyagu, the parish priest of City Parish which also oversees the St John Britto church, said the government assistance was a great blessing for the 44-year-old church.

He hoped the church could be renovated with the “little” gift. — Bernama
