Penang PAS chief appointed state religious council head
GEORGE TOWN, July 27 — Penang PAS commissioner Datuk Mohd Salleh Man has been appointed the new president of the State Islamic Religious Council (MAIPP).
In announcing this today, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mansor Othman said Mohd Salleh’s appointment had received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong through a letter received on July 23.
“The appointment is for a two-year term, from January 2012 to December 31, 2013,”
he told a media conference here today.
Prior to this, the DAP-led state government was said to have sent the name of state executive council member Datuk Abdul Malik Abul Kassim for the MAIPP president’s post, but PAS objected to his appointment.
PAS claimed that PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had promised the party the post during the Permatang Pauh by-election three years ago.
Mohd Salleh, who won the seat, was only appointed the MAIPP deputy president. — Bernama
