Penang turns Bukit Mertajam land into a public park

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 27 — Penang has gazetted 10.1 acres in Bukit DO, Bukit Mertajam as a recreational park under the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) government's pledge for a green state.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said today the state will work with the corporate sector, non-governmental organisations and residents to maintain the park in a planned and systematic manner.

“The request to gazette was approved by the Land Committee on August 24, 2010 and it will be brought forward to the Exco meeting soon for final approval,” he said, adding that the public park would under the Seberang Perai Municipal Council.

Lim said approval to gazette the land as a recreational park was given following requests from Bukit Mertajam MP Chong Eng and Berapit assemblyman Lydia Ong Kok Fooi.
