Perak records 188 new AGE cases
IPOH, Feb 16 — A total of 188 new cases of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) were today found in two districts in Perak, raising the total number of cases to 3,444 since the outbreak late last month.
Of the new cases, 114 were detected in the Hilir Perak district and 74 in Batang Padang, said State Health, Local Government, Consumer Affairs, Environment, Public Transport and Non-Islamic Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.
“Six people were admitted to hospital in Hilir Perak and three in Batang Padang,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Two infants, aged two months and 10 months respectively, believed to have been infected by the rotavirus which causes AGE, died in Hilir Perak on February 10.
Bernama reported that Dr Mah advised the people to refrain from eating raw vegetables, to boil drinking water and to wash hands with soap and clean water before and after eating.
