Perkasa seeks fatwa over use of word ‘Islam’ in PAS name
PASIR MAS, May 12 — Malay right-wing group Perkasa has proposed that the National Fatwa Council deliberate on whether it is appropriate for PAS to use the word “Islam” in its name.
Its president, Datuk Ibrahim Ali, said yesterday it was time the council issued a fatwa as the use of the word could confuse Muslims, particularly the fanatical supporters of the party.
He said some people regarded the actions and statements of PAS leaders as being in accordance with Islam.
He cited the statement by PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat encouraging Muslims, particularly the party’s members, to participate in the April 28 Bersih 3.0 rally.
“Nik Aziz himself did not attend the rally,” he noted. — Bernama
