PKR deputy division chief charged for violating Bersih court order
KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — A Rasah PKR deputy division chief was charged in a Session Court today for two counts of violating the court order barring the Bersih 3.0 rally from being held at Dataran Merdeka.
Bernama reported that former soldier R. Tangam, 50, claimed trial to the charges read to him at around 4.18pm.
Tangam, as a Bersih 3.0 rally participant, was accused of violating an April 26 court order under Section 98 of the Criminal Procedure Code as made by magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir at around 3pm on April 28.
If convicted, Tangam faces up to six month in jail, a fine, or both.
He also pleaded not guilty to a second charge of knowingly taking part in “Gabungan Pilihanraya Bersih dan Adil” (Bersih 3.0) despite gatherings at Dataran Merdeka being barred from April 28 to May 1.
The barring order extended to areas bordered by Jalan Raja, Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin and Jalan Kelab other than Selangor Royal Club.
Tangam was charged under Section 188 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail sentence of up to six years, an up to RM2,000 fine, or both if he is convicted.
The Sessions Court Judge granted him bail at RM2,000 with one surety pending mention on June 5.
