Police call on non-Malays to join patrol during Hari Raya

September 04, 2010

PETALING JAYA, Sept 4 – Selangor police today called on non-Malay residents in the state, who will not make the “balik kampong” trip, to join the police in patrolling their housing areas during Aidilfitri.

Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the programme, launched in conjunction with the “Balik Kampung Bersama Rakan Cop: Perjalanan Selamat, Rumah Terjaga” campaign, would start two days before Hari Raya.

He said it was hoped that the programme would help in reducing the crime rate, besides putting a little more control over the residents’ properties throughout the festive season.

“The programme is an initiative to educate the public on how to prevent crime and to create public awareness on the importance of taking responsibility on their own properties and lives,” he told reporters after launching the campaign here today.

He said the programme would be carried out at housing areas in Damansara, Puchong and Seri Kembangan.

Khalid said the programme was in line with those implemented during Chinese New Year last year which had succeeded in preventing crimes in Seri Kembangan.

“With the participation from the public, we will not only be able to reduce crime rates, but also nurture the spirit of unity among the public,” he added. – Bernama
