KUANTAN, Aug 29 — Pahang police confirmed today the arrest of a senior opposition leader and his son on suspicion of incest as reported in a newspaper today.
Pahang police headquarters, Criminal Investigation Department chief, SAC T. Narenasegaran said, however, that investigations are ongoing, pending DNA reports from the Chemist Department.
“We’re still investigating. We’ve taken blood samples from the two suspects who are the victim’s father and younger brother, for paternity tests.
“Based on the results, we’ll make a decision and suggest the next course of action to the Deputy Public Prosecutor,” he told reporters here today.
It was reported today that the leader and his 14-year-old son had been detained on August 22 to facilitate investigations after his 15-year-old daughter delivered a baby girl at a maternity home in Cheras.
The two suspects were released on police bond yesterday.
The victim delivered a baby girl on August 12 and is understood to be currently staying at a women’s shelter in Kuala Lumpur.
Narenasegaran also confirmed that the suspect was a former PKR candidate in Pahang during the last general election and a retired drug rehabilitation centre staff.
The suspect, 59, has two wives and 11 children from the ages of six to 31 and it is understood that the victim is his daughter from his first wife.
Bukit Aman, Criminal Investigation Department, director, Datuk Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin told reporters that the teenage victim’s statement was recorded here today.
Meanwhile, speaking at a press conference in Bukit Aman, Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the police would not compromise on the case.
“Rape is a crime, no matter who commits it or when it’s committed. I consider the people involved as suspects and we'll investigate as usual,” he said. — Bernama
