Police cripple carjacking syndicate, seven suspects held

June 28, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 — Police believe they have crippled the Geng Hong syndicate believed to have been actively involved in carjacking and house break-ins, with the arrest of seven suspects in Genting Highlands, Pahang and Cheras here on June 8 and 14.

Cheras police chief ACP Mohan Singh Tara Singh said five suspects, including two women, were detained and two BMW, a Proton Savvy, a Honda Odyssey and a Honda Civic car were seized together with a laptop, handphones, car keys and tools used for breaking into houses.

“The five suspects were detained in Genting Highlands on June 8, before two more members of the syndicate were detained in Cheras on June 14,” he told reporters today.

Mohan said police believe that with the arrest of the seven they would be able to solve at least 17 robbery and carjacking cases in Cheras, Brickfields, Kajang and Gombak.

The modus operandi of the syndicate is to break into houses when the owners are away and escape with valuables and any car parked in the house compound. — Bernama
