Police: Dead Dang Wangi detainee had heart attack
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — A detainee, who died at the Dang Wangi police headquarters lockup yesterday, had a heart attack, said Dang Wangi police chief, ACP Zainuddin Ahmad.
Based on the post mortem by the Kuala Lumpur Hospital here, hypertensive heart disease was the cause of death of lorry driver Chandran Perumalu, 47, he said.
He said Chandran, who was detained on September 6 for the suspected kidnapping of a child in Sungai Besi was found dead at 7.20pm by a policeman who tried to wake him from sleep.
Zainuddin said Chandran, who was married and had children, had no prior criminal record.
“According to Chandran’s wife, her husband had hypertension and had suffered several heart attacks before,” he said.
He said Chandran’s body was claimed by his family at 4pm today and the case has been classified as sudden death. — Bernama
