Police gun down escapee
GOMBAK, Aug 3 — A detainee who escaped from custody at the Selayang Court Complex here today was shot dead by police in self defence at the Puncak Templer water treatment plant, here today.
Robbery and car theft suspect, M. Vijay Kumar, 26, escaped about 11.30 am as he was about to be transported back to the police lock up after his remand was extended for another six days, said Gombak police chief ACP Abdul Rahim Abdullah.
“He fled as he was about to get into the police lorry, managed to change into a contractor’s uniform at the Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor building nearby and armed himself with a machete before hiding out at the Puncak Templer plant,” he said when contacted at the scene today.
The suspect panicked and used the machete to attack a policeman who stumbled upon him at the plant, said Abdul Rahim.
He said the suspect died at the scene after the policeman fired three shots in self defence. — Bernama
