Police: Nayati kidnap mastermind an ‘amateur’, returning soon
Nayati was released after his family ransomed him from his abductors.KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 — The police believe that a man suspected to be the mastermind behind the kidnapping of Dutch national Nayati Shamelin Moodliar, will return to Malaysia soon.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah has described the alleged mastermind, a father of one, as an “amateur” kidnapper.
Based on the modus operandi of the case, he said the man was a novice who could not even devise a fool-proof escape for himself after the 12-year-old victim was kidnapped on April 27.
“We will wait for him to return. He will return,” Ku told reporters here today.
After Nayati’s family secured his release on May 3, from a group of kidnappers with a RM300,000 ransom, the mastermind slipped out of the country and escaped to France.
Following his escape, six suspects, including a woman, aged between 19 and 40, were detained to facilitate investigations.
A Proton Gen 2, owned by one of the suspects and fitted with false number plates, was seized by the police.
Nayati was kidnapped by three people while walking to the Mont Kiara International School near his house here.
He was found safe at the North-South Expressway rest area at Sungai Buloh at 7.55am, on May 3.
Meanwhile, a police source said the suspected mastermind who married his wife a year ago, had persuaded her to go for a honeymoon in Europe.
However, the woman suspected something amiss because they kept changing hotels while in France.
“The man gave €100 (RM400) to his wife before he left. Later, his wife contacted her family to buy her a flight ticket to return home,” the source said.
Upon returning to Malaysia, she lodged a report at the Jalan Travers police station last Wednesday. — Bernama
