Policeman shot four times by assailant after scuffle

JOHOR BARU, July 2 — A policeman from the Nusajaya police headquarters was shot four times outside an entertainment outlet in Nusa Bestari during an argument while watching the Euro 2012 final between Spain and Italy at 4 this morning.

Constable Snilus Lembik, 24, from Salim, Sibu, Sarawak who is in a coma, was shot four times in the stomach by an assailant who managed to grab the policeman’s pistol.

The incident was believed to have been triggered by an argument with the assailant, believed to be drunk at the time, while watching the match on the first floor of the outlet.

Nusajaya police chief Supt Noor Hashim Mohamed said police, who arrived at the scene a few minutes later, managed to detain the assailant, who is in his 20s.

Snilus was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here. Police have classified the case as attempted murder. — Bernama
