Policeman, three others held for robbing Indonesian workers
KUALA TERENGGANU, June 10 — A policeman and three youths were arrested for robbing six Indonesian construction workers early yesterday.
In the 4am incident at a kongsi house in Jalan Jakar, Kemaman, the policeman, an auxiliary constable, allegedly acted as the getaway car driver.
State CID chief, ACP K. Manoharan said the labourers had been asleep when they were awoken by three people, one of whom was wearing a police vest, claiming to be from the anti-narcotics branch.
He said the three men ordered the workers, aged in their 20s to 40s, to hand over their passports and leave the house.
“After they had exited the house, two of the men rushed into a room and seized a bag containing RM400 cash,” he said when met at his office.
“They all escaped in a car driven by the constable. However, one of the victims saw its registration number and lodged a report at the Kemaman police station,” he said.
Manoharan said police arrested the three youths, aged 18 to 20, at a restaurant in Cukai Utama at 6.45pm yesterday, leading to the arrest of the policeman, aged 27, who was attached to the Cukai police station.
“Police also recovered some of the money from the robbery and found a rented car used by the robbers abandoned near a supermarket in Kemaman,” he said.
The four are being remanded for four days from today and the case is investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code. — Bernama
