Pro-PPSMI group passes 12,000 letters to Najib

December 21, 2011

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 21 — An activist group handed 12,000 support letters from parents for the reinstatement of the Teaching of Science and Mathematics in English (PPSMI) over to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) today.

Only five representatives from Concerned Parents of Selangor (CPS) out of the 20 who showed up were allowed in to meet a PMO officer and hand the letters, The Star Online reported.

CPS coordinator Shamsudin Hamid expects a response soon from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The new school term begins on January 3, less than three weeks away, reverting to Bahasa Malaysia the teaching of all science and mathematics except for some student batches.

He explained the letters were collected over two weeks from mainly Petaling Jaya and Kelana Jaya, adding that the group would have raised 50,000 letters if it has more time based on feedback received.

CPS is an ad-hoc apolitical group of parents with children in Selangor’s national schools primarily.
