PTPTN says may lend to refugee students

August 11, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) is prepared to consider applications for loans from students studying in strife-torn countries.

Its chairman, Datuk Ismail Mohamad Said, said the conditions for the loan were that the students concerned return to study in this country and that they had never received any loan or sponsorship from other parties or state governments.

“The students concerned must submit their applications according to the conditions set to any PTPTN branches for consideration. So far, no application has been received from these students,” he said.

He disclosed this to reporters after handing out advanced sponsorship payment to students in the Kuala Krau parliamentary constituency at Bandar Tun Razak, Jengka yesterday.

Ismail said the PTPTN provided significant allocation each year and for this year alone, a total of RM6 billion had been allocated for loans to eligible students. — Bernama
