Rais calls Bersih gathering ‘dirty’

KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 — Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim called the Bersih 3.0 gathering ‘dirty’ for not showing respect for the law.

According to Bernama, the information, communications and culture minister said the participants ignored consensus and lacked respect for positive and noble values.

Of the participants, Rais was quoted saying,”They do not show respect for the laws which they themselves support in the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara, and do not respect court decisions.”

In an obvious reference to opposition leaders who were at Bersih, Rais said, "What can we say about such leaders, who drag the nation to street demonstrations, bring hardship to the public, raise conflicting values and do not respect religious principles?"

Rais made the remarks at the 45th annual general meeting of the Badan Kebajikan dan Kemajuan Anak-Anak Melayu Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus (Badan) at Kuala Lumpur
