IPOH, Sept 1 — The Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, made a surprise visit to Ipoh today, and headed straight for Taman Rapat Koperasi and Taman Harmoni where the people have been complaining often about an illegal dumpsite and open burning.
He told the Ipoh mayor, Datuk Roshidi Hashim, that Ipoh City Council officers should go to such places and investigate and take immediate action.
Besides Roshidi, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah was also accompanied by State Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Rahman Hashim during the visit to the dumpsite where irresponsible people had discarded unwanted construction material such as bricks and steel rods.
The Raja Muda told Roshidi to take immediate action and resolve the problem.
He also said that every Ipoh City councillor should report back on the people’s grievances for immediate action to be taken to bring relief to the people.
Roshidi, when contacted later, said the Ipoh City Council would clean up the area immediately and take the offenders, among them building contractors, to task.
He also said that the council would undertake constant monitoring in the area and other areas in the city through the anti-refuse squad.
“The City Council will not compromise. The offenders should change their ways and discard refuse at the council’s dump in Bercham,” he said. — Bernama
