Resignation of Lajim and Bumburing does not affect people’s support for BN, says Chua

July 29, 2012

IPOH, July 29 — The resignation of Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin and Datuk Seri Wilfred Bumburing does not affect the people's support for Barisan Nasional (BN) in Sabah.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek (picture) said the people's support for Sabah BN leaders was still strong as they could evaluate the reasons for quitting.

"I want to say good luck to them. Party supporters are aware that it is important to support the BN leadership to ensure continued development in Sabah," he told reporters after launching Perak MCA convention here today.

Yesterday, Lajim quit as Umno Supreme Council member, Beaufort Umno division chief and Beaufort BN chairman.

Lajim who is also Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government and Member of Parliament for Beaufort announced the formation of Sabah Reform Front.

Today, Bumburing who is deputy president of United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) quit the party.

Seasoned politician Bumburing is also Member of Parliament for Tuaran. Upko is a component party of Sabah BN.

Chua said rumours of the leaders quitting had been around for eight months and their decision to quit immediately was in anticipation of the general election. — Bernama
