February 20, 2013

PETALING JAYA, Feb 20 – Police nabbed five members of a gang in two separate raids, suspected of robbing 15 restaurants in this area.

Selangor deputy police chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan said three of them were teenagers between 16 and 18 believed to have been active in Damansara, Sungai Buloh and Puchong.

“On Monday two men were picked up in a budget hotel in Desa Mentari where we seized suspected stolen goods such as car keys, cell phones, laptops and a Perodua Myvi car.

“We found two machetes and tools in the stolen car,” he said at a press conference, here today.

A Kia Picanto car reported stolen from Desa Mentari was also found, he added.

Three other suspects were picked up the following day at separate locations, he said.

“We’re tracing two more suspects, R. Sashi Kumar and R. Paramesh,” he said.

Thaiveegan said one of the detained men had been charged for a similar case and was awaiting trial.

“I appeal to restaurant owners and individuals who have been victimised by this gang to come forward with information. The five men have been remanded until Feb 23,” he said. – Bernama
