RM1m federal funds to rebuild two churches in Sarawak

August 06, 2012

KUCHING, Aug 6 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has agreed to allocate RM1 million to fund the rebuilding of two historical church buildings in Sarawak.

Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu said today RM500,000 each was approved recently for the St Luke Church in Sri Aman and St Augustine Church in Betong.

“Datuk Seri Douglas Uggah Embas, who is the Natural Resources and Environment Minister and the Minister on Sarawak Affairs, had discussed with our prime minister to rebuild the church buildings which have been in existence since 1841,” he said.

Jabu made the remarks when witnessing the handing over of cheques for the amount to the two churches by Uggah to their respective committees.

He said the federal allocation was timely after the committees had worked tirelessly to raise funds for the last 10 years to re-build the church buildings. — Bernama
