Robbers flee with RM1.17m from four ATMs at Carrefour, Wangsa Maju
KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — Robbers ran off with RM1.17 million prised from four automated teller machines (ATMs) at level one of the Carrefour hypermarket in Wangsa Maju, here, early today.
Sentul district police chief, Supt Othman Abu Bakar said the break-in was realised by a security guard at 7am while on patrol and found the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras tampered with.
"Upon seeing the ATMs having break-in holes, the security guard notified the police."
Othman said based on the initial investigation into the CCTV recordings, the incident happened at 3.06am involving a gang of robbers wearing face masks who used oxy-gas to break into the ATM machines.
"We believe they are very professional criminals and the robbery involved very careful planning," he told reporters, here, today.
Othman said police were now tracking down the robbers based on the CCTV recordings at the scene of the crime.
He urged members of the public with information on the incident to immediately contact the nearest police station to facilitate the investigation. — Bernama
